An artistic impression (from Roman Yorkshire (Dalesman Books, multiple editions)) of the Roman fort and civilian settlement (vicus) with the Multangular Tower and opposite fort corner identified. This is only a notional rendition and there is no evidence to place the expected associated amphitheatre where it is shown in the impression.
The drawing above matches the location of the known amphitheatre at the legionary forts at Chester and Caerleon. If it was located in the vicinity of King's Manor. Several years ago it was hypothesised that this may well be true as two of the buildings at the rear of the site appear to be collapsing in on themselves as if falling into a void or constructed on uncompacted ground, the in-fill of the Roman amphitheatre.
